How to Prep Your Lips for Summer: The Simple Routine Every Indian Woman Needs Before the Heat Hits

by Glambank Beauty 26 Mar 2026

Every year it happens the same way. March arrives, the heat starts building and somewhere around the first really brutal afternoon I look in the mirror and notice my lips have already given up. Dry patches, that dull look, lipstick sitting wrong no matter what I try. I used to think this was just what summer did to lips. Something you had to wait out until October.

What I eventually figured out is that the damage happens gradually and the fix has to start before the heat peaks, not after. Prepping your lips for summer is genuinely one of the simplest things you can do for your skin this time of year. It takes less than five minutes, it requires no complicated products and the difference it makes to how your lips look and feel through April, May and June is significant.

Here is exactly what I do and why each step actually matters.

Why Indian Summer Is Particularly Brutal on Lips

The skin on your lips is thinner than anywhere else on your face and it has no oil glands of its own. It cannot produce its own moisture the way the rest of your skin can. In normal conditions that is manageable. In Indian summer conditions, where temperatures regularly cross 40 degrees, humidity swings dramatically before monsoon and most of us are moving between outdoor heat and heavily air-conditioned spaces all day, it becomes a real problem.

The heat accelerates moisture evaporation from the lip surface. The dry air from air conditioning pulls out whatever moisture is left. UV exposure from the sun breaks down the delicate lip skin faster than most people realise. And because most of us are slightly dehydrated in summer and drinking less water than we need, the lips show that dehydration first.

All of this adds up to lips that feel tight, look dull, develop flaky patches and make even the best lipstick look uneven and patchy. The good news is that most of this is completely preventable if you get ahead of it.

Step One: Exfoliate First and Actually Mean It

The first step in any pre-summer lip prep is clearing away the dead skin that has built up over winter and early spring. Most people skip this entirely and then wonder why their lip products sit unevenly. If you have flaky or rough patches on your lips, no amount of hydration is going to fix the surface until that dead skin is gone.

You do not need a fancy lip scrub for this. A small amount of sugar mixed with any oil you have at home, applied gently in circular motions for about thirty seconds and then rinsed off, is genuinely effective. Do this two to three times a week in the lead-up to summer and then once a week through the season to maintain the surface.

The key word is gently. The lip surface is thin and sensitive and scrubbing too hard or too often will irritate it rather than help it. Light, consistent exfoliation is what works, not aggressive scrubbing once in a while.

Step Two: Switch Your Hydration to Something That Actually Absorbs

This is the step that makes the biggest difference and the one most people are not doing correctly. Standard lip balms, the kind most of us grab out of habit, work by creating a wax or petroleum-based coating over the lip surface. That coating slows down moisture loss but it does not add any moisture. In summer heat that coating also breaks down faster because of sweat, eating and the temperature.

Switching to a lip oil changes this completely. The Glambank Hydragloss Lip Treatment is formulated with Hyaluronic Acid, Jojoba Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Shea Butter and Peach Extract. These are active skincare ingredients that absorb into the lip tissue and deliver hydration from within rather than just sitting on top. Hyaluronic Acid draws water into the lip and holds it there. Jojoba Oil mimics the skin's natural oils to lock that moisture in. Shea Butter provides deep, immediate comfort.

The result is lips that are genuinely hydrated rather than just coated. In summer that distinction matters enormously because surface coatings evaporate and break down while real internal hydration stays.

It comes in three shades. Starlight is completely clear with a vanilla fragrance, which makes it the most versatile for layering over any lip product. Moonlight gives a soft pink tint with a strawberry fragrance for days when you want a little colour with your hydration. Sunshine is a warm orange tint with a citrus freshness that feels like it was made for the season.

Step Three: Build the Overnight Habit Before Summer Peaks

The most effective thing I have done for my lips in summer is making overnight lip oil application a non-negotiable part of my routine before the heat arrives. Applying the Hydragloss Lip Treatment generously before bed and leaving it to absorb overnight gives the Hyaluronic Acid and Shea Butter several hours to work without any heat, eating or drinking interrupting the process.

If you start this habit in March, before the worst of the heat hits, you are building a foundation of genuinely healthy, hydrated lip tissue that will hold up much better through April and May. Trying to fix drought-level lip dryness in the middle of summer is significantly harder than preventing it from developing in the first place.

This is a two-minute habit before bed. Apply, leave it, wake up to noticeably softer lips. Do it consistently and the improvement is cumulative.

Step Four: Rethink What You Are Putting on Your Lips Every Day

Summer is a genuinely good time to audit the lip products you use daily. A lot of conventional lipsticks contain parabens, petroleum derivatives and synthetic waxes that sit heavily on the lip surface and can contribute to dryness and darkening over time. In summer heat that effect is amplified because these ingredients interact badly with sweat and prolonged sun exposure.

Switching to a clean formula makes a real difference. The Glambank Airvelour Creme Matte Lipcolor has Argan Oil, Jojoba Oil, Macadamia Oil, Hyaluronic Acid and Licorice Extract built into the formula. It is paraben-free, sulphate-free and petroleum-free. The formula is designed to deliver twelve hours of rich, even colour without drying the lips out in the process, which makes it one of the few matte lipsticks I actually reach for in summer without worrying about what it is doing to my lips underneath.

For summer specifically, three shades from the range that work particularly well:

  • Monday is a nude brown that reads as effortless and polished in the heat without requiring much upkeep.

  • Thursday is a peachy nude that adds warmth and freshness to the face — exactly the kind of lift a summer look needs.

  • Tuesday is a brick nude that works beautifully on medium to deep Indian skin tones and holds its warmth even in full sun.

Clean ingredients, long wear and shades developed for Indian skin. That is what summer lip colour should look like.

The Full Five-Minute Pre-Summer Lip Routine

Put together, this is what the routine actually looks like in practice:

  • Two to three times a week: Gentle sugar scrub on the lips for thirty seconds, rinse, pat dry.

  • Every morning: Apply the Hydragloss Lip Treatment before any other lip product. Let it absorb for a minute, then apply lip pencil and lipstick on top if wearing colour.

  • Every evening before bed: Apply the Hydragloss Lip Treatment generously and leave it overnight. This is the most important step.

  • Daily switch: Replace any conventional lipstick that contains petroleum or parabens with the Glambank Airvelour Matte Lipcolor. Your lips will feel the difference within a week.

That is genuinely all it takes. No elaborate routine, no expensive steps, just consistent small habits that compound into noticeably better lips through the whole season.

Start Now, Not After the Damage Is Done

The best time to start a pre-summer lip routine is always before you feel like you need one. By the time your lips are visibly dry and cracked in May, you are already playing catch-up. Starting in March, when the heat is just beginning to build, means you are protecting and nourishing your lips through the transition rather than trying to repair them after the fact.

The Glambank Hydragloss Lip Treatment and the Airvelour Creme Matte Lipcolor are both made with clean, natural ingredients specifically designed for Indian skin. They are affordable, they work and together they make summer lip care something you actually look forward to rather than something you dread.

Your lips deserve the same preparation you give the rest of your skin before summer. Give them five minutes and they will thank you for it all season.
